Can I install my own Forjj Juliet balcony?

juliet balcony installation

If you are in the market for a new Juliet balcony and are keen to attempt to fit it yourself, the good news is that the installation process can be quite straightforward and simple!

Read our tips for safely and securely installing a Juliet balcony:

1. Pick out the right Juliet balcony for self-installation.

Once you’ve decided on the style of Juliet that you’d like, you will also need to find the correct size for your balcony.

We make this process simple for our customers: simply measure the aperture of the window or door you would like to install the Juliet to. The aperture is the horizontal measurement of the opening, and since most windows and doors in the UK have standard sizes, you will find that our six set aperture lengths will easily suit your property.

2. Choose your fixings.

When purchasing a Juliet balcony, you will also need to decide on the right type of fixings based on the material of the building you will be fixing it to. If you are unsure, you can ask a structural engineer, builder, surveyor, or other qualified tradesperson.

Generally, fixing a balcony into masonry, brickwork, or blockwork is quite straightforward for individuals hoping to install their own Juliet balcony. Other materials like timber or stonework can be a bit more complicated, but we offer a guide on how to choose fixings for most types of materials.

3. Install your Juliet!

The installation process should be pretty basic – align the mounting brackets at the correct height (remember to use a spirit level!) and mark the position of the fixing holes, then drill the holes and install the fixings, and securely fix the Juliet to the wall.

Some considerations to keep in mind during the installation process:

  • Some larger balconies are very heavy. All product weights are listed here. Make sure you have adequate assistance or support.
  • Before choosing where to position the balcony, note the NHBC guidelines in relation to height, as outlined
  • Keep any packaging on the Juliet railings during the installation process in order to avoid chips, scrapes or nicks. Remove just enough wrapping to expose the mounting brackets and then remove any additional packaging once fixed to the wall.

4. Enjoy!

Make yourself a cuppa (or a cocktail!) and take in the fresh air and unobstructed views from your new Juliet balcony.
