Looking after your Juliet Balcony

Juliet Balcony care

If you have recently purchased and installed one of our Juliet balconies or if you are thinking of purchasing one, we recommend that you ensure you are familiar with the recommended upkeep and maintenance routine.

With that being said, Forjj Juliet balconies are extremely simple to clean and maintain due to the high-quality materials and finishes we use.

Simply follow this helpful guide with ideas for keeping your balcony pristine:

Caring for Steel Juliet Balconies

Forjj’s mild steel balconies are hot dip galvanised to the British Standard BS EN ISO 14713-1 as standard, making them suitable for exterior use even in the harshest or most exposed climates.

The process of hot dip galvanising involves dipping the steel in molten zinc which forms a metallurgical bond between the zinc and steel, isolating the steel from the environment and significantly slowing corrosion and resisting rust for decades. In fact, galvanised metalwork has a corrosion rate 1/30th that of bare steel.

Your galvanised steel balcony is corrosion-resistant, however, it isn’t corrosion-proof, so we do recommend some minimal maintenance to help keep it looking like new for years to come. Clean dirt and spills from the surface using a damp soft cloth or, if necessary mild detergent such as dish soap.

Our stainless steel balconies are also corrosion resistant. Best practice is to remove any dirt or spills from the balcony with a soft cloth.  You can purchase stainless steel cleaning products for built-up deposits but typically a mild detergent like dish soap will handle regular cleaning needs.

Powder Coated Juliet Balconies – Maintenance and Cleaning

To clean powder coated items, simply use a soft cloth and a mild detergent. We recommend cleaning your powder-coated balcony every six months to ensure it remains in immaculate condition.

If you have opted for a Juliet balcony with a powder coat, there is also a chance that scuffs or knicks may occur. These can be easily fixed with brushed paint or a colour-matched spray.

Juliet Balcony Fixings

The fixings on your balcony should be tight and solid, although in rare occasions, could require a ‘second tighten’ within the first week or so after installation. If our team installed your Juliet balcony, contact us about any concerns about your fixings and we will be happy to inspect and tighten any that may have become loose.

If the fixings on your Juliet balcony repeatedly become loose, contact a qualified tradesperson who can ensure the fixings are safe.

To keep the fixings in prime condition, we recommend that you wash them with dish soap every 6-12 months.

Cleaning Glass Balconies

Glass Juliet balconies can be wiped clean the same way you would clean your home’s windows; using kitchen roll or a soft towel and window cleaning chemicals, mild detergent, or even just water.
